Chief Ifagbenusola Atanda

Science tells us that 97% of the water on earth is saltwater located in the Ocean. Of the reservoirs of freshwater on Earth, only 0.003 percent is fit to drink. It's this body of water that we must be careful to preserve for people and other living things. Around 80 percent of global fish stocks are fully or overexploited; nutrient and plastic pollution continue to increase, and only around four percent of the ocean is protected. We face new challenges as our population and needs grow. For life, drinking water is essential, but clean water is also essential in other ways. We need more water for sanitation, to maintain health, we need it for our industries to sustain modern practices, and we need to allow natural environments to have some if we want these environments and their inhabitants to remain. We often rely on these inhabitants for food. We must join together to make sure that present and future generations have clean fresh water as our population and needs grow. We all must be invested in making sure that present and future generations have clean fresh water. The United Nations have declared 2018-2028 the International Decade for Action on Water for Sustainable Development. Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all by 2030.
